1.Getting started
Open the application in any modern browser — there is nothing to install.
- The app ships with a fully seeded fleet: 8 tugs, a year of completed maintenance history, engine hour logs, open work, and a forward drydock plan.
- Everything is stored locally in your browser first and synchronized to D365 when connected — so it keeps working at sea. See Working offline.
- The sidebar on the left is the main navigation; the search bar at the top finds assets by name, location, or class.
2.Dashboard
Your day at a glance: tasks assigned to you, fleet status, and pinned announcements.
- Work orders due today appear at the top — click one to jump straight into its checklist.
- Pinned announcements (e.g. updated lockout/tagout procedures) stay visible until acknowledged.
3.Assets & logging hours
Assets lists every tug, dock, and barge with live tank gauges and open-work counts. Click a vessel to open its detail page.
On the asset detail page
- Equipment tree — functional locations down to components (main engines, generators, winch…).
- Component hour log — record an hour-meter reading; readings drive the preventive-maintenance triggers and the projection charts in Insight Tables.
- Gauges — potable water, fuel, oil, and grey water with warning thresholds.
4.Work orders & checklists
Preventive routines and corrective jobs, executed as low-click checklists.
- Open Work Orders and pick a job (filter by status or search).
- Work through the steps: yes/no items get Pass Fail Flag; gauge steps capture a reading on a slider.
- Need the procedure? The PDF job aid link is on every work order — no per-step sign-off required.
- Add labor time and cost category before completing, so the hours land in reporting.
Failing or flagging a step can spin up a deficiency without leaving the checklist.
5.Work requests (deficiencies)
Anything found broken on rounds gets logged here, triaged, and tracked to resolution.
- Click New Request, pick the asset/component, set priority, and describe the finding.
- Each request keeps a full timeline — logged, triaged, parts ordered, resolved.
6.Insight Tables
Saved cross-fleet summary reports built from everything the crews capture. Open one from the list — every table supports Export Table (CSV).
- Engineering: Caterpillar / EMD Summary — every engine of that manufacturer fleet-wide: current hours, last completion, and when each service comes due. Overdue items show in red.
- Engine Usage & PM Projection — charts each engine's logged hours, fits the observed usage rate, and marks the date the trend crosses each service threshold.
- Engine Hours Log — every meter reading, newest first.
- PM Status / Open Deficiencies — work-order and deficiency rollups by category and vessel.
7.Drydock Schedule
A half-month planning board for tentatively scheduling yard periods across the fleet, a year ahead.
- Each row is a tug; each column is half a month (1–15 / 16–31).
- Click any cell to cycle the plan: H in service → DD planned drydock → RDD regulatory drydock → OOS out of service → back to H.
- Watch the left columns: COI expiration and DD Expire turn amber, then red, as deadlines approach — and the period containing a drydock deadline gets a red ring on the grid.
- The right-hand column totals each boat's in-service months.
8.Analytics — build a report in front of your audience
An ad-hoc, drag-and-drop report canvas. Think Power BI field wells, computed live from the local data.
Build your first report
- Open Analytics. The palette at the top offers five widgets: KPI Card, Bar Chart, Trend Line, Donut, and Table.
- Drag a widget onto the canvas — or simply click it. It lands already showing real data.
- Shape it with the dropdowns on the widget:
- Dataset — Work Orders, Labor & Cost, Deficiencies, Hour Readings, Drydock Plan, or Fleet.
- Measure — count, labor hours, estimated hours, fleet running hours…
- Group by — asset, category, worker, priority, builder…
- Filter — open only, completed only, corrective only, contract labor…
- Rename the title by typing over it, resize with the expand icon, reorder by dragging the grip handle, remove with ×.
Example: "Which boats eat the most labor?"
- Add a Bar Chart.
- Dataset → Labor & Cost, Measure → Labor hours, Group by → Asset.
- Add a Trend Line, switch its filter to Corrective only — is unplanned work trending up?
Your canvas is saved automatically and will be exactly as you left it next time you open the app.
9.Working offline
Crews work at sea; HarborMaster assumes the connection will drop.
- Every edit — checklist results, hour logs, deficiencies, drydock plans — is saved locally first and queued for synchronization.
- The Online / Offline pill in the top-right shows connection state and the count of queued changes; everything replays to D365 automatically when the connection returns.
- To see it in action, click the pill to simulate going offline, make some edits, then click it again — watch the queue drain.
- After your first visit the app is fully cached, so it even loads with no connection at all.
